Working with Ribbon Yarns

A friend was asking me recently about how to work with ribbon yarns so that they don’t get all twisty. I usually just let the twist happen, but Here’s another solution I found while browsing for Halloween Treats. This box from Oriental Trading Company would let the ribbon yarn flow without twisting–of course you could also make one yourself with a dowel, hole punch and shoe box.

Cheaper and faster: when the twist gets unbearable, put an elastic around the ball to stop the ribbon from unwinding. Lift your project towards the ceiling (stretching is good for you), let the ball hang and unwind itself all by itself.

    Doesn’t look as nice, though.
