Amy O’Neill Houck is a writer and crochet and knitwear designer. She learned to crochet at the age of eight from her grandmother, Helen Markos Buschmann, and never stopped.

Amy is the author of The Color Book of Felted Crochet, and Knits for Bears to Wear: More than 20 Fun, Knit-to-Fit Fashions for All Teddies and Toys Including 18-Inch Dolls, and Crochet for Bears to Wear: More Than 20 Perfect Projects for Your Favorite Teddies and Friends both published by Potter Craft. With her co-conspirator Miriam Felton, she created the “Plays Well Together,” column on Knitty.com offering tutorials and patterns on using knit and crochet fabric in the same projects.

Amy’s pattern line, AOH Designs is known for its patterns that beautifully balance fit, style and creative, fun construction.

Amy writes about crochet technique, history and fashion for publications including Interweave Crochet, and Crochet Today magazines. Amy has appeared as a guest on the knitting TV show Knitty Gritty, and she is a teacher with Craftsy.com.

When she’s not designing with fiber, you’ll find Amy in the kitchen devising recipes. Amy has an MFA in creative nonfiction and she regularly writes about wild food and sustainable eating. She contributes a regular column to Edible Alaska magazine, and has written for The Juneau Empire, The Cordova Times, The Capital City Weekly, among others. She’s the former nutrition editor for Vegetarian Baby and Child Magazine (now part of VegNews). More of her writing can be found on her other website, Alaskatarian.

Amy lives in Cordova, Alaska where she can wear wool year-round. You can find her on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.
